Glasspoint demo unveiled

15 Sep 2011

REM’s client, Glasspoint Solar, has unveiled the world’s first solar-thermal plant for enhanced oil recovery in McKittrick, CA.  The 1/4-acre plant uses parabolic sun-tracking mirrors to harness the sun’s energy in order to produce hot water and steam.  The hot water and steam is used to remove oil from wells from which extraction is no longer possible by conventional means.  REM led the development of the pointing control system including the tasks of sensor selection as well as development of electronics, firmware, and software.

12” Gyrowheel Launches

01 Dec 2009

REM developed the electronics, firmware, electromechanical components, and contributed to the mechanical design of the 12” Gyrowheel.  The Gyrowheel replaces the front tire of a kid’s bicycle and re-invents the training wheel. Inside the Gryowheel, a gyroscopic flywheel spins at a high rate of speed giving the wheel significant angular momentum. This makes the bicycle stable at low speeds and teaches proper riding technique unlike traditional training wheels. REM brought the project from the early phases through off-shore production.
